10 Things You Should Know Being a Pet Parent

Being a pet parent is not easy! You have to take care of your pet appropriately and also make sure they are happy. Here are some of the tips which will help you achieve this!

#1 Do your homework before having a new pet

Before deciding on an animal, think about what kind of animal is best for your family and lifestyle. If you don’t have much time at home, an energetic puppy or kitten may not be the best option. It’s not fair to the animal, and your home will almost certainly suffer as a result.

An older dog or cat could be a better choice because they need less care and attention. Also, find out which breed is best for you. – breed, whether purebred or mixed, has its personality style and care requirements.

#2 Let your pets feel at ease in their own home

Since your pet will most likely spend the majority of its time indoors, it’s important to make them feel at ease in their surroundings. Make sure their water bowl is always full, that they have access to a potty area, whether it’s a doggy door or an indoor potty pad, that their litter box is new and available, and that they have a bed to snuggle in, so they don’t have to lie on the hard floor all day.

    #3 Maintain a healthy atmosphere

Make sure your home is free of anything dangerous that your pet might consume, such as chocolate, Xylitol-containing candy or gum, children’s toys, household cleaners, or other popular household products and foods that can be fatal to pets. Make sure your dog or cat’s play area is free of any potential hazards, such as electrical cords, string, and yarn, which they could eat or tangle in. Around, make sure all fence holes are repaired, so your dog doesn’t get trapped or escape, and keep all lawn chemicals out of reach.

#4 Make sure your pet is properly identified

Nobody wants their pet to become separated from them, but accidents do happen. Having a comprehensive, digital pet ID, such as a PetHub tag, is the best way to help prevent your pet from being permanently lost.

There are many advantages of using a digital ID tag, but the two most important are that PetHub tags include a free online profile and access to a 24-hour emergency hotline where someone can assist you in reuniting with your pet. You can upload a photo of your pet, provide essential health details, list several phone numbers, provide contact information for your pet’s veterinarian, and more with the online profile.

#5 Implant a microchip in your pet

Although a visible ID tag is preferable, tags may fall off and become lost. A microchip is a painless computer chip that contains a specific identification code and is implanted under the skin. This identification code can be scanned at a vet clinic or animal shelter and put into a database to retrieve details about the pet owner.

    #6 Keep your pet occupied

It’s important to take your dog for a daily walk or play with your cat or dog with toys to keep them physically and mentally stimulated. They would not only act out if bored or anxious from pent-up energy, but active pets even live longer. It is beneficial to their well-being to keep their blood pumping and their minds functioning.

    #7 Educate your pet

Some pet owners believe that once their animals “graduate out of” the puppy stage, they can behave properly. They may calm down and pick up a few characteristics on their own, but they still need your help. Begin teaching them when they are young to ensure that it becomes a habit. Invest in private lessons if you have a hyper or stubborn breed that needs more assistance than basic instruction.

#8 Make sure their water and food bowls are clean

It’s easy to forget about an animal’s food and water dishes, but they need to be washed on a daily basis, just like your own. They can get clogged with dirt, grime, and bacteria, making your pet sick. In the summer, if you leave a bowl outside for them, make sure to change and clean it on a regular basis.

    #9 Trim their toenails

Long nails can make walking difficult for your pet and eventually lead to joint problems, so they should be kept short. Curly dewclaws need to be observed more closely as they grow longer and push through the paw pads. While you’ll probably be able to cut your cat or small dog’s nails on your own, if you’re unable to do so, consider taking your larger dog to a salon. It’s well worth the money to give your dog a pain-free life.

    #10 Visit the veterinarian

If you think something is wrong with your pet, make an appointment with the veterinarian. Since animals cannot talk for themselves, it can be difficult to say when something is wrong, so be mindful of signs that are out of character for them.
