13 Border Collie Mixes That Are As Smart as They Are Stunning

Border collie mixes are wonderful dogs that bring the best of both worlds. If you like the brains, energy, and charisma of a border collie, then you will probably love these mixes even more! Since border collies are so energetic, their crossbreed can be as energetic as well, especially when crossed with another high-energy breed.

Prior to taking one home, though, you might like to know a bit about mixed-breed puppies. Dr. Patrick Singletary, a Marietta, Georgia veterinarian at Good Dog Veterinary Care, maintains that genetics play a big part in what the puppy will be like. Given that each puppy receives approximately 20,000 genes from their parent or parents, there is no way to bank on them ending up exactly the way you would prefer.

In order to obtain the perfect border collie mix, research different breeds for a few months. Dr. Singletary also cautions against puppy mills and recommends adopting from shelters or responsible breeders. Let us now discuss some of the best breeds of border collie that you might fall in love with!

Border Aussie (Border Collie + Australian Shepherd)

This mixture is genius intelligent—maybe even more intelligent than a toddler! Border Aussies like to stay active and keep moving. Under the right training, they can accomplish great things like painting, becoming yoga experts, or even being a “bark ranger” on trails. If you enjoy challenges, then this energetic mix is ideal for you.

Borador (Border Collie + Labrador Retriever)

Labradors are actually very devoted dogs, and when you add that to a border collie, you have an active, loving dog. Boradors like to swim, walk, and hang out with their people. And they even live relatively long lives, 10–15 years, so you will have your best friend for some time.

Coltriever (Border Collie + Golden Retriever)

Also known as the golden border collie, this cross is affectionate, clever, and lively. Coltrievers are simple to train because they learn fast. They can handle children and other pets well if socialized early. If you require a dog that is clever and affectionate, you will love this cross.

    Bordoodle (Border Collie + Poodle)

The bordoodle is likely to shed less than other border collies because of the poodle parent. The cross is highly intelligent and playful but will also try to “herd” children and other pets. With training and lots of playtime, the family-raised bordoodle is an excellent pet.

Shollie (Border Collie + German Shepherd)

Shollies take after both parent breeds in their work ethic. They love training, mind games, and daily exercise. As smart and devoted as they are, they also make ideal service animal candidates. Staying physically active and mentally challenged is their secret to bliss.

Border Heeler (Border Collie + Blue Heeler)

This cross is one of the most effective working dogs because it has herding parent breeds. Border heelers are active, friendly, and very loyal to their owners. Because they have a robust temperament, they are well-suited to an active family where they can play a role.

    Borsky (Border Collie + Husky)

With beautiful looks and a lively temperament, the borsky is a showstopper. They are talkative, playful, and adventurous. If you need a dog that enjoys going outdoors and can keep up with an active lifestyle, the Borsky is perfect.

Border Beagle (Border Collie + Beagle)

Border beagles are loyal, energetic, and curious. They enjoy hiking and camping with their owners because they possess a strong smelling ability. Although they are very keen to travel into new lands, border beagles are very loyal and very trusting and bonded to their owners as well.

Border Rottie (Border Collie + Rottweiler)

A mix of brains and muscle, border rotties are active dogs who appreciate being kept active. They need exercise every day and adore dog sports like flyball. They are devoted to their own families and great companions as well as watchdogs.

    Borgi (Border Collie + Corgi)

This cross brings together the corgi herding instinct and border collie instinct. Borgis are intelligent, affectionate and love training. Because of their compact size in relation to a pure border collie, they can be a great fit for families wanting a small, active dog.

Border Collie Pyrenees (Border Collie + Great Pyrenees)

This blend of the calm Great Pyrenees and the border collie’s energy is unstoppable. They are reserved, affectionate, and wary. Because of their atypical personality, early socialization and training are necessary.

    Bodacion (Border Collie + Dalmatian)

With their patchy coats and high intelligence levels, bodacions are ones to be noticed. While Dalmatians are shy, border collies are dominant, so this combination is an interesting one. They need socialization so that they can adjust to new environments, but they are readily trainable in tricks—some learn to operate communication buttons!

Cocker Collie (Border Collie + Cocker Spaniel)

This sweet mix is on the smaller end for most border collie mixes but just as energetic. Cocker collies need to be groomed frequently and love to play. They are excellent with families, smart, and friendly, provided that they can continue their active way of life.

Finding the Right Border Collie Mix for You

There are so many incredible breeds of border collie mixes, each with their own unique personality and needs. Whether you are looking for a high-energy adventure buddy or a loyal companion, there is a border collie mix that is perfect for you. Just make sure to research carefully and adopt responsibly.
